Attending Brandologie Conference

I was granted a free pass to the AMA Forward 09 Brandologie conference for my work on live Twitter displays of the #brandologie hashtag. There's an exciting line up featuring luminaries from established Marketing companies such as Wieden+Kennedy and numerous smaller technology oriented companies.

Twitats Launched

An exciting side project has launched into Twitats featuring live streaming of twitter trends. It originated with the SXSW Twitter Music Recommendation Engine and was fine tuned for the Webvisions and AMA Brandologie conferences. Services include live streaming display of specific keywords, emerging trends and personal recommendations based on keywords.

Webvisions Twitter Keyword Analytics

Webvisions is a great local Portland conference dealing with web technologies. This year I worked with Brad Smith of Stephanie Wagner who run Webvisions to apply my SXSW Twitter Music Recommendation Engine to analyzing more general keywords broken down into categories. I had a lot of fun with the project, here are my results.

SXSW Twitter Music Engine

During SXSW Music I found myself Twittering about all the different bands I was lucky enough to see. At the same time, I realized there was a lot of music that I had no hope of catching due to the sheer number of bands. That's when I came up with the idea for my SXSW Twitter Music Recommendation Engine. I analyzed twitter messages concerning the 2,000 official bands at SXSW, and ended up with over 200,000 messages from 13,000 twitter users. I cross referenced them to see what information I could gleam, and the results can be found here.

SXSW In Full Swing

SXSW Interactive started up Friday the 13th, other than that the day was very lucky. Updates will mainly be added to Twitter at @enactd

Open Source Bridge Proposal

With OSCON moving south to San Jose this year, Open Source Bridge decided to fill in the void with their own open source conference. Enact D recently submitted a proposal "Internationalization with Symfony"

Enact on Twitter

Enact Development has made it onto Twitter. Start following @enactd if you want to keep up with all the excitement.

MySQL Customer Conference

I just wrapped up the MySQL Customer Conference in London. It was geared toward the High End crowd who consider a 15 Gigabyte database "small" but it was still very informative. They did a great job of letting everyone know that MySQL is the wave of the future, evident in this tag-cloud photo (click for a larger version):

It's good to see PHP displayed prominently as well, especially since the conference was full of DBA's who complained about the poor SQL statements written by developers. But I didn't take it personally, they never worked with me.

Afterward a large number of people went to a post-conference bar Meetup. It was a Meetup meet up, apparently people here actually use meetup.com. There I was lucky enough to chat with a chap I met at an O'Reilly Open Source Converence (OSCON) in Portland a few years back. It's a small world.

Powering the Web Economy

Chris Alan will be in London for the MySQL European Customer Conferences 2008 on Thursday October 23rd. The main focus will be impacts on the Web. This will be the first overseas conference attended by Chris Alan and it looks promising.
